About the role
To support the supervision of workshop operations, vehicle maintenance, repairs and roadside breakdown response, ensuring vehicles are maintained safely, efficiently and with minimum downtime.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and allocate work to mechanics and workshop staff.
- Coordinate vehicle servicing, repairs and preventive maintenance.
- Diagnose and oversee mechanical and electrical vehicle faults.
- Respond to and manage roadside breakdowns and emergency repairs.
- Assess breakdowns and coordinate on-site repairs, towing or recovery as required.
- Inspect completed repairs to ensure quality and safety standards.
- Identify recurring faults and recommend corrective action.
- Ensure workshop tools, equipment and breakdown equipment are maintained and available.
- Monitor spare parts and maintenance material usage.
- Maintain accurate workshop, maintenance and breakdown records.
- Liaise with drivers, Operations, Stores, suppliers and management.
- Ensure compliance with workshop and occupational health and safety requirements.
- Support and guide workshop staff to improve productivity and workmanship.
- Participate in emergency and after-hours breakdown response when required.
Qualifications
- Diploma or Certificate in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering or a related technical field.
- Minimum 5 years’ relevant workshop/vehicle maintenance experience.
- Proven experience handling roadside breakdowns and emergency repairs.
- Supervisory or team-lead experience is preferred.
- Experience with commercial vehicles, trucks, buses or heavy equipment is an advantage.
- Knowledge of automotive electrical systems is an added advantage.
- Strong mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and make timely technical decisions.
