About the role

To support the supervision of workshop operations, vehicle maintenance, repairs and roadside breakdown response, ensuring vehicles are maintained safely, efficiently and with minimum downtime.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and allocate work to mechanics and workshop staff.
  • Coordinate vehicle servicing, repairs and preventive maintenance.
  • Diagnose and oversee mechanical and electrical vehicle faults.
  • Respond to and manage roadside breakdowns and emergency repairs.
  • Assess breakdowns and coordinate on-site repairs, towing or recovery as required.
  • Inspect completed repairs to ensure quality and safety standards.
  • Identify recurring faults and recommend corrective action.
  • Ensure workshop tools, equipment and breakdown equipment are maintained and available.
  • Monitor spare parts and maintenance material usage.
  • Maintain accurate workshop, maintenance and breakdown records.
  • Liaise with drivers, Operations, Stores, suppliers and management.
  • Ensure compliance with workshop and occupational health and safety requirements.
  • Support and guide workshop staff to improve productivity and workmanship.
  • Participate in emergency and after-hours breakdown response when required.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or Certificate in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering or a related technical field.
  • Minimum 5 years’ relevant workshop/vehicle maintenance experience.
  • Proven experience handling roadside breakdowns and emergency repairs.
  • Supervisory or team-lead experience is preferred.
  • Experience with commercial vehicles, trucks, buses or heavy equipment is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of automotive electrical systems is an added advantage.
  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and make timely technical decisions.
