Product Developer – Tanzania 13 applications

About the Role:

 The product developer reports directly to the Research development and applications manager. The product developer is responsible for the quality, food safety, and aesthetics of the product. The product developer shall follow through on set processes and ensure adherence to good manufacturing practices (GMP), food safety, Safe Quality Food (SQF) standards, and product quality standards.

 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Create and enhance products that fill a niche in the market or allow the clients to remain competitive.
  • Determine product specifications according to several factors and uses.
  • Consult market research materials and sales data to ensure that products are viable and competitive.
  • Submit proposals and designs for evaluation by the project team and management before moving to the next stage.
  • Document ingredients, formulations, processes, and other testing involved with new product development
  • Organize and participate in sensory evaluation and trials of products
  • Collaborate with sales team to develop prototypes to meet customer needs and briefs, creating products and prototypes that are by customer briefs
  • Develop products that meet and exceeds customer expectations in customer briefs and deadlines
  • Keep up to date with relevant scientific and product developments
  • Record and analyse product development data
  • Generate ideas for new products and research feasibility in terms of profitability, resource availability and compliance with regulations
  • Conduct good laboratory practices which includes maintaining laboratory and equipment hygiene
  • Develop standard operating procedures for product development processes,
  • Prepare laboratory reagents, stock solutions, and do daily calibration of laboratory equipment as required by the standards,
  • Observe all the laboratory quality control and assurance activities while working in the laboratory
  • Perform any other duty as the office and line manager may assign it

 

Qualifications & Competencies:

  • Bachelor’s degree in food science and Technology, Microbiology
  • Practical research, factory, or laboratory work experience
  • Proven working experience as a product developer or in a related field
  • Team player.
  • Creative and innovative thinking skills.
  • Problem-solving skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent analytical skills
